The sequel to Tony Scott's 'Top Gun' (1986) premieres in US theaters on June 26, 2020.

During the 2019 San Diego Comic-Con, Paramount Pictures presented the first Top Gun trailer: Maverick, the sequel to Tony Scott's iconic Top Gun (1986) that premieres in US theaters. on June 26, 2020. The continuation is set decades after the original, although the protagonist Pete 'Maverick' Mitchell (Tom Cruise) is still wearing his leather jacket. You thought it was the same, right? Well, you are wrong. It is missing the flags of Japan and Taiwan.

As Taiwan News and Toychan point out, one of Maverick's (Tom Cruise) patches have been removed and changed to a different one. In the original tape, in this one, you could read "Far East Cruise 63-4 USS Galveston", which also included the flags of the USA, the UN, Japan, and Taiwan. The patch now says "Indian Ocean Cruise 85-86 United States Navy" and it does not show the flags of Japan or Taiwan. The reason? Tencent Pictures produces Maverick with Paramount and, as the Chinese government considers Taiwan part of its territory, the Taiwanese teaching has vanished - and that of Japan as well.

Directed by Joseph Kosinski (TRON: Legacy, Oblivion), Top Gun: Maverick not only has Tom Cruise in his cast. You'll also see Val Kilmer - who repeats as Iceman, Miles Teller - like Bradley Bradshaw, the son of Nick 'Goose' Bradshaw -, Glen Powell, Monica Barbaro, Jon Hamm, Ed Harris, and Jennifer Connelly.
