The meat and bone version of the Disney classic will be directed by Rob Marshall.
Disney continues to work on the real-action versions of its classics and one of its future projects is The Little Mermaid. The film, directed by Rob Marshall, has already done the most difficult thing: finding his Ariel. Halle Bailey has been chosen to give life to the protagonist of this story and her signing has caused some criticism of the House of Mickey Mouse for choosing a black actress for the role.
Bailey, meanwhile, looked like he had turned a deaf ear. And, now that she has given her opinion for the first time, the interpreter has confirmed that, indeed, that is what she has done. He has also stated that what he wants to focus on is to enjoy the experience of bringing this character to life. As stated in Variety:
I feel that I am dreaming and I am very grateful and do not pay attention to negativity. I feel that this role is bigger than me and better and it will be beautiful. I'm excited to be part of it
In addition to Bailey, The Little Mermaid could count on Melissa McCarthy as Úrsula and Javier Bardem as King Triton. Also with Harry Styles in the role of Prince Eric. Those who do appear to be officially part of the cast are Awkwafina as the seagull Scuttle and Jacob Tremblay as Flounder.
