Denis Villeneuve's film with Timothée Chalamet as Paul Atreides opens in theaters in December 2020.
Denis Villeneuve's Dune opens in cinemas on December 18 of this year and, after seeing the covers of Empire and some of his images, four more photos published on paper by the British magazine have been shared 'online'. The first is perhaps the most interesting, with the Harkonnen army, because it gives us an idea of the magnitude of the long and because it gets us to remember the battle of Helm's Abyss of The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, led by Peter Jackson. Will the new version of Dune be this spectacular?

In Frank Herbert's 1965 original novel, Baron Vladimir Harkonnen's troops are powerful in themselves, and even more so when they join forces with those of the deadly Sardaukar of the emperor of the known universe, Shaddam IV Corrino. In addition to this snapshot, Empire also contains in its pages three others: one with Villeneuve alongside Timothée Chalamet, one with Sharon Duncan-Brewster as Liet-Kynes, and one with Josh Brolin as Gurney Halleck.

Villeneuve, in an interview with the publication, has also referred to the previous adaptation of the play, directed by David Lynch, and released unsuccessfully in 1984. "I'm a big fan of David Lynch. He's a teacher," explained the Canadian. "When I saw Dune, I remember being excited. But its adaptation... There are parts I love and other elements that I feel less comfortable with. So... I remember feeling half-satisfied. That's why I started thinking, 'You still have to make a movie about that book, just a different sensibility.'

Scripted by Villeneuve himself in collaboration with Eric Roth and Jon Spaihts, Dune will be divided into two films and will deal with the journey of the Atreides family, Duke Leto Atreides, his concubine Lady Jessica, and his son Paul, from his home on the planet Caladan to the in-hospital and deserted Arrakis, also known as Dune. The clan moves with its entourage to oversee the production of the melange, a spice drug that only emerges there and represents a vital piece for the Empire. But not everything is as easy as it seems, as enemy forces conspire in the shadows. Zendaya, Jason Momoa, Javier Bardem, Dave Bautista, David Dastmalchian, and Charlotte Rampling, among others, also participate in the cast. Warner Bros. will broadcast its first trailer online on September 9 and also develops a prequel series titled Dune: The Sisterhood, which will air on HBO Max, centered on the Bene Gesserit guild.
